German sparkling wine, or Sekt, comes from a variety of grapes and can range in color from pale yellow to golden to pink. Whether made from Reisling or another grape like Pinot Noir, it can also vary greatly in dryness. Sekt is a big part of German culture, for both special occasions like birthdays and New Year’s Eve, and everyday events, pairing with everything from rich foods like duck and lamb to a simple meal of burgers and fries.

Amy Racine, wine director at John Fraser Restaurants, dropped by the Paste Studio in Midtown Manhattan to give us a tutorial in all things Sekt.
