The history of plantings in Central Otago is described by Nick Mills, with reference to Jean Désiré Feraud, but a focus on the people in the early 1970s. Grape growing in New Zealand’s Central Otago for wine production began in earnest in the 1970’s with Ann Pinckney, Alan Brady (Gibbston Valley), Rolfe and Lois Mills (Rippon), Verdun Burgess (Black Ridge) and Bill Grant (William Hill, now Shaky Bridge).
